Explore Your Prenatal Eclipse

Spiritual Astrology by Jan Spiller

Jan Spiller and Karen McCoy published” Spiritual Astrology” in 1985, their title pointing us toward the use of astrology not to determine outer events but to assess and assist the progress of our soul. We choose our actions, but knowing the nature of the planets in our chart and their transits through our charts can help us follow the path which best enlightens us and helps us grow spiritually.

While the first part of the book provides a standard cookbook interpretation of planets and signs, the second part of the book delves into a lesser-known interpretive technique, understanding the prenatal eclipses as they affect our energy as we move through life. For the nine months we are in utero, at least one solar and one lunar eclipse occur. “These prenatal eclipses have a profound influence on the unborn child,” Spiller and McCoy write, “and the energy pattern dispensed during these eclipses follows you the rest of your life.” The solar eclipse tells us about the lessons we are here to teach, and the lunar eclipse indicates the lessons we have chosen to learn. By tapping into the sign’s energies of each eclipse, we can live less as a creature bound by ego, and more as a being channeling light.

Born under the Aries prenatal solar eclipse, we are here to teach others to be courageous, face their fears, and embrace new beginnings. With Aries as our prenatal lunar eclipse, we were born to learn the lessons of independence and living our own truth. When the prenatal eclipse falls close to the South Node, the energy is more unconscious. We can fear rejection and push people away to build a false sense of independence. Once we face this tendency in ourselves, we can build the inner security that we can handle whatever life throws at us. When the prenatal eclipse is near the North Node, the energy is more conscious and we tend to be so self-sufficient that we reject people who can help us. Realizing that taking a helping hand once in awhile does not make us weak is important for our soul growth.

With the influence of a Taurus prenatal solar eclipse, we are born with an innate sense of physical and spiritual values, and we draw people to us who need to have their values realigned. Born under the Taurus prenatal lunar eclipse, we are here to learn “prosperity consciousness.” We need to see that money is a byproduct of the services and gifts we provide rather than a means by itself. With the prenatal eclipse falling at the South Node, we can unconsciously block our flow of prosperity. We need to patiently build a secure base for our resources rather than leaping into instant gratification around our financial desires. At the North Node, the prenatal eclipse indicates we need to learn it is ok to build financial security and be comfortable in our resources.

Born under the Gemini prenatal solar eclipse, we are here to teach others the importance of the written and spoken word in keeping human beings connected. We have the ability to gather information that people need to hear. When we are born under the prenatal lunar eclipse in Gemini, we need to learn how to communicate by understanding that others do not perceive things the way we do. Understanding how others see the world is as important as expressing our ideas clearly. If the prenatal eclipse fell at the North Node, we consciously work to improve our communication skills and educate ourselves. If the prenatal eclipse was near the South Node, we unconsciously tap into what others want to hear and can use our communication skills to manipulate or deceive. Facing this tendency in ourselves can lead us to realize that not everyone agrees with us and that we can get negative feedback. Not taking this personally is the key to being able to express ourselves honestly.

When our prenatal solar eclipse occurs in Cancer, our soul’s path is to teach others how to process and understand their emotions. We can draw people to us who have difficulty understanding their emotional lives because they are so attached to external events. Through taking on their emotional burdens and releasing them to the Universe, we help others to heal. When we are born with a Cancer prenatal lunar eclipse, we can feel disconnected from our own family, or we can take on their emotional states as a reflection on who we are. We are here to learn to nurture ourselves, to live within our own emotions and feel safe with those who care about us. Finding how to do what we need to live in the physical world will free us to tap into the spiritual and live a meaningful life.
